Meet Our Staff
Leah Helton · Front Desk Manager
Leah joined the Barkefellers staff in March of 2015 as a Front Desk Attendant. She is a graduate of Greenwood High School.
Before she came to Barkefellers, Leah’s pet care experience came from caring for her own wide variety of pets. “I have had all kinds of animals growing up; dogs, cats, bunnies, ducks, snakes, iguanas, chickens, birds, and a few more!”
When she isn’t busy working at the Front Desk, Leah enjoys being outdoors and going camping and hiking.
“My favorite thing about Barkefellers is seeing how excited the dogs are to come here – and I like watching all the puppies grow up!”
Candice McCutcheon · Front Desk Manager
Candice originally joined the Barkefellers South staff in March of 2012 as a Front Desk Attendant, was promoted to Front Desk Manager and enjoyed almost four years at that location. After a short break, she returned in October of 2016 to Barkefellers West as a Front Desk Manager. Candice says “I can’t imagine being anywhere else!!”
Candice is a graduate of Perry Meridian High School and earned her Business & Office degree from Central Nine Career Center. Before finding her way to Barkefellers, she gained previous pet care experience as a shelter volunteer and as an attendant at other boarding facilities.
She currently has three Pit Bull mixes of her own – Bella (7 y/o), Jinx (5 y/o) and Gremlin (3 y/o). They are such wonderful pets, Candice is convinced that Pit-Mixes are the best!
Candice’s favorite thing about working at Barkefellers: “No matter what is going on in my life, working with the dogs always seems to make life a little better. I also love talking to customers and hearing stories about their pets!”
Katelynn Kiefer · Front Desk Manager
Katelynn joined the Barkefellers family as a Hotel/Day Care Attendant in February of 2016. She made the move to Front Desk Attendant and then was promoted to Front Desk Manager. She’s currently a senior at Indiana State University.
Katelynn says she’s always had a love for animals. She has three dogs of her own. Belle is her oldest – a mutt who she rescued as a puppy. Callie – her 2 year old German Shepherd – is a Certified Therapy Dog who visits Countryside Meadows once a month. And her third furry baby is Tardis, a Boxer, who she also rescued!
When she isn’t busy working at the Front Desk, Katelynn enjoys reading good books and doing Therapy visits with Callie.
“I love working at Barkefellers because I get to see all the wonderful dogs and customers. Seeing the dogs get so excited when they arrive makes my day at work amazing!”
Emily Bills · Hotel Manager
Emily joined our Barkefellers family in April of 2013. She is a 2011 graduate of Avon High School and studied psychology at Ivy Tech Community College for 2 years, until she decided to devote all her energy to pursuing a career in Professional Pet Care Services.
Emily grew up with dogs in her home, so her pet care experience began with her own pets when she was still very young. Her first job was at a pet store when she was 15 – Emily wanted to learn even more about dogs – and she worked there for three years. She also gained pet care experience by providing pet-sitting services for family and friends.
Emily has two German Shepherds of her own; Diesel, an 8 year old male and Lacey, a 12 year old female. She also has a boxer, a 2 year old female named Lilly. They are the most loyal, protective, loving and goofy dogs she’s ever owned and they are her very best friends.
When she isn’t busy caring for the guests at Barkefellers, Emily just has to stay busy doing something – a self-described ‘busy-body’! She’s a very organized person who loves to plan activities, work out, and snuggle up watching movies. And of course, Emily spends lots of time with her dogs, either at the park or cuddling on the couch. Wherever she is – with her dogs is her ‘happy’ place!
“My favorite thing about working at Barkefellers is how much I love getting to know all of the different dogs’ personalities and their smiles. They have a way of cheering me up. I love my job more and more every day because of them!”
Tracey Persinger · Hotel Manager
Tracey joined the Barkefellers family in 2014 as a Hotel/Day Care Attendant. She is a graduate of Ben Dais High School.
Tracy got her start in caring for pets as a pet-sitter while she was still in high school. She’s worked at several other pet care facilities and now, with more than 13 years of professional pet care experience, Tracey says: “I’ve finally found where I belong here at Barkefellers!”
Animals have always been a big part of Tracey’s life. She currently has a gray tabby cat named Chloe.
Outside of work, Tracey loves to go to the park with friends and walk dogs. She also enjoys attending pet-related events like Mutt Strut. Tracey’s crafty, too! “I like to make wallets out of duct tape currently!”
“My favorite thing about working at Barkefellers is being able to care for the pets! I love knowing that people trust me to take the best care of their pet while they’re here! Coming to work is like therapy! It doesn’t matter if I’m having the worst day, as soon as I get to work, everything is great!”
Lyndsey Bloomer · Hotel Manager
Lyndsey joined the Barkefellers staff in December 2013 as a Hotel/Day Care Attendant. She is a graduate of Harrison College with an Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.
Growing up, Lyndsey cared for her own dogs and watched her neighbors’ dogs. She’s currently owned by Chloe – “a sweet loving dog who loves giving kisses! She is my best friend and my adventure buddy.”
When she’s not managing the Hotel at Barkefellers, Lyndsey loves to go adventuring at the parks with her dog and capturing goofy pictures that Chloe poses for.
“My very favorite thing about working at Barkefellers is all the Newfoundlands! Therefore, I am known as the ‘Newfie-Lover’ here at work. I also love getting to spend time with all the dogs and playing with them.”
Hannah Sauce · Trainer · Barkefellers University
“What I love most about training dogs at Barkefellers is that every day is different and every dog is different. I am always being challenged by the many dogs I work with and am so grateful to be able to share a bond with each and every one of them! If you love your job, it never feels like work.”
Hannah first worked at Barkefellers Northeast as a Front Desk Attendant, then moved to the West location to become the Trainer in July 2016.
Hannah attended Purdue University, where she graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the College of Agriculture. Hannah’s degree is concentrated in Animal Behavior and Well-Being and she also has a minor in Psychological Sciences. Her interest in behavior/well-being peaked when she began taking behavioral neuroscience and animal psychology courses and got involved in behavior research at Purdue. She has had a variety of jobs in the animal care field, including kennel attendant, zookeeper intern, animal care intern, agriculture research assistant, wildlife/conservation education (focused on animal care), canine playgroup monitor and canine obedience trainer. She is also a Certified Canine Massage Therapist.
Hannah is the proud mom of a 1 year old mystery mutt named Murphy. She also spends a lot of her time with her family’s two huskies, Desoto, age 4, and Kenobi, age 3.
Hannah believes that understanding the behavior of your dog is crucial to keeping them happy, healthy and well trained. Her favorite part of her job as the trainer is getting to help you truly understand and connect with your dog!
